Strength in Balance
A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?—Ecclesiastes 2:24–25 (NIV)
We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds.—PSALM 75:1 NIV
We trust certain names. There are products with particular brand names we buy over and over. We rely upon a certain repair company that we know provides quality services. Someone shares a good report about her doctor and we see if he’s taking new patients. Hearing the name of an old friend brings a smile to our faces.
“What’s in a name?” William Shakespeare asked. If it’s a reliable, honest name, we know we can put our faith in that name. Hearing that name brings peace and hope. We are thankful that name is present whenever a need arises.
Sometimes for caregivers, the reliable, honest name of God becomes a one-word prayer. We don’t have the clarity or the energy to say much more. Just God’s name.
We can’t explain how we are feeling or what the next day will bring, so we call out His name. Just God’s name.
The pain of grief may be so deep that repeating His name is our only comfort. Just God’s name.
Friends and family may let us down, making us feel all alone. God’s name goes with us through our dark times.
Just God’s name.
We can trust God’s name. It’s all we need. Just God’s name.
Almighty God, I thank You for being near. You know what I need, and I trust You with my present and my future. You are my Lord, my God, and my Savior.

And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven.—Acts 9:3 (KJV)
The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.—Psalm 29:11 (NIV)
