Avoid Entangling Affairs

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.—2 TIMOTHY 2:4 KJV

Since the fall of man, life has been a battle between good and evil. And we are called to be soldiers in the cause.

Those whose theater of operations is caregiving can sometimes miss the bigger struggle. We can become entangled in the affairs of this life.

Maybe you enlisted—or maybe you were drafted. Either way, the caregiving role is one of vital spiritual importance. So whatever you do, try to avoid the lesser pursuits of this life, the entanglements that keep you from best serving your loved one.

Though relaxation is good and necessary, there may be forms of entertainment that simply aren’t good for us. Though food is one of life’s great pleasures, we need to eat the right things—in the right amounts. Though caregiving can be stressful, we can’t excuse petty squabbles and arguments with people around us.

Let’s be wise in choosing our pursuits today. We must be willing to forsake our own immediate desires—and the world’s model of success—for the sake of Christ.

Make His priorities yours. Be a soldier who pleases our heavenly General.

Father, I want my loved one to see You in my life. Give me the strength to forsake the world and avoid its entangling affairs as I serve.
