Take Refuge in the Lord

When we make Him an undistracted part of our day, He becomes our emotional shield.

“But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all your deeds.” Psalm 73:28

This world often feels like opposite sides of a tug of war. A deadline at work pulling me in one direction, church volunteering in another, volleyball games pulling me this way, housework dragging at my feet. I plan to do my morning devotions, but the demands of the day sometimes intrude, so I say a quick prayer and head out the door.

But this is like visiting your parents, giving them a hug and then saying, “Sorry, gotta dash. See you next year!” You wouldn’t do that. You visit them to spend time with them, to be close to them. The things in this world can be distractions that pull us away from Him. Don’t let it happen.

Zealously guard your time with the Lord each morning. If you have to, institute a rule that the kids and the husband have to be both bleeding and burning before you’ll be drawn away from your precious time with Jesus.

You want to be near to Jesus. It’s when we’re close to Him that He whispers to us. It’s when we’re quiet with Him that He gives our hearts true rest and peace. It’s when we make Him an undistracted part of our day that He becomes our emotional shield and spiritual refuge.

Faith Step: Make it a priority to draw near to Jesus and stay there for a while.
