A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Psalm 121:1–4 (NIV)

This morning I woke up to find Addison tucked up against me. He is a cuddler. I know at some point the cuddling will stop so I am going to take it while I can get it. I remember when I was a little girl waking up on warm summer nights to huge thunderstorms with cracking lightning. Usually, all four of us kids would end up in my parents’ bed where we knew we were safe. We were with Mom and Dad.

I think Addison feels the same way. Any fears melt away when he snuggles down between Scott and me. He feels safe. We all want to feel that. In moments of fear or suffering, when we are scared or hurting, we know who we can run to. It’s Jesus. We know the One Who keeps us safe and holds us close. We know that our help comes from the Maker of heaven and earth. He doesn’t let up in His caring for us, in His healing of us, in His leading.

Jesus did all that He could to be close to us. When we run to Him, He doesn’t think, “Why don’t they go bother someone else?” He is like me when I hear Addison coming down the hall and I throw back the covers and say, “Get in here.” He wants to comfort us and let us know that we are loved and that we are protected by the One Who laid out the universe. And that is a beautiful thing.

Faith Step: Snuggle up on the couch in your favorite blanket. Feel Jesus wrap you in His love. And remind yourself that He watches over you with an everlasting love and He will never let you go.
