Summer Wonders

How to have a summer full of mystery, awe and miracles.

Summer wonder

With summer heat bearing down on us like a blazing comet, I thought you might enjoy a blast of Rocky Mountain high on the cover. This month we are proud to feature Kirstie Ennis, a battle-tested Marine gunner gravely wounded in Afghanistan, who faced her greatest battle after she returned home to civilian life. Here’s a clue to Kirstie’s grit: She climbed a Colorado mountain for our photo shoot.

One of Guideposts’ most important and enduring partnerships is with U.S. military chaplains. Each year, they help us distribute more than a million magazines, booklets, devotionals and greeting cards free of charge to every branch of service, all across the globe. Through your generosity, we’ve also been able to serve more than 150,000 military families every year with a subscription to Guideposts. If you would like to help us extend a hand to our troops and their families, please go to our Military Outreach section. We can’t do this important work without you.

Another thing you’ll probably notice about the cover is that it is “wrapped” with a promotion for our sister magazine Mysterious Ways. More like a daughter, perhaps, because it all started in 1981 with the column in Guideposts that quickly became your favorite. A few years ago, we decided to create a new magazine celebrating these wonderful stories that show heaven’s hidden hand in our lives, those unforgettable moments of awe and wonderment that touch us when we most need a miracle. How do we find these amazing stories? That would be through the efforts of our terrific Mysterious Ways staff, headed up by Managing Editor Diana Aydin. You can try a free issue by turning to the back page of the wrap, going to guideposts.org/mw or visiting the Mysterious Ways Facebook page.

Here’s to having a summer filled with awe, wonderment, mystery and miracles. And maybe a few mountains too.
