Is Anyone Listening?

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever.—JOHN 14:16 AMP

Christians have the assurance God will hear them when they call. In turn, we can hear God’s voice of love when we listen.

People who love each other spend time together. They share their dreams and hopes. So it is with our heavenly Father, who wants to hear from us. He cares so much that He sent the Holy Spirit to be our Counselor, our Comforter.

The Greek translation for “comfort” is paraklesis or “calling near.” When we are called near to someone, we are able to hear his or her whisper. It is this very picture scripture paints when it speaks of the Holy Spirit. God sent the Spirit to whisper to us and to offer encouragement and guidance, to be our strength when all else fails. When we pray—when we tell God our needs and give Him praise—He listens. Then He directs the Spirit within us to speak to our hearts and give us reassurance.

Our world is filled with noise and distractions. Look for a place where you can be undisturbed for a few minutes. Take a deep breath, lift your prayers, and listen. God will speak—and your heart will hear.

Dear Lord, I thank You for Your care. Help me to recognize Your voice and to listen well.
